Toilet Repair & Installation in Exmouth
Toilet Repair Services in Exmouth
Most toilet issues are diagnosed and fixed in a single visit.
Running toilet repair
Fix the most common toilet fault — a worn flush valve, faulty fill valve or stuck float that lets water trickle constantly into the bowl. Usually fixed in under an hour.
Leak repair
Diagnose and stop leaks at the cistern, the pan-to-floor seal, the fill valve, the flush valve or the supply pipe. Hidden leaks behind the unit are flagged before they cause floor damage.
Blocked toilet
Clear stubborn blockages a plunger cannot shift. Includes flexible drain rods, drain snakes and CCTV inspection if the blockage is in the soil pipe beyond the toilet.
Full toilet replacement
Remove an old toilet and fit a new close-coupled, back-to-wall or wall-hung unit. Includes new isolation valve, flexible connector, wax seal and bottom-floor sealant.
Macerator toilet repair
Saniflo, Sanicompact and other macerator-style toilets need specialist care — blocked blades, failed micro-switches and pump faults. Most plumbers in Exmouth carry common spares.
Limescale removal
Heavy limescale build-up under the rim or in the fill valve is common in hard-water areas like Exmouth. A plumber can descale internally without damaging the ceramic.
Diagnose Your Toilet Problem
Match your symptom to the most likely cause and typical fix. If in doubt, a plumber can usually diagnose over the phone.
Toilet keeps running
Likely cause: Worn flush valve washer or stuck fill valve
Typical fix: Replace the flush valve (£30 part) or adjust/replace the fill valve. A plumber will diagnose and fit in 30–60 minutes.
Toilet will not flush properly
Likely cause: Worn flush mechanism, low water level or blocked rim jets
Typical fix: Adjust the cistern water level, replace the flush handle assembly or descale the rim. Fix usually takes 30 minutes.
Water on the floor around the base
Likely cause: Failed wax seal, cracked pan or loose connection
Typical fix: Lift the toilet, replace the wax seal and refit. If the pan is cracked, you need a new toilet — leaks behind tiles can cause floor damage if ignored.
Toilet rocks slightly when you sit on it
Likely cause: Loose floor fixings or failing wax seal
Typical fix: Re-tighten floor screws and check the seal. Persistent rocking eventually breaks the wax seal and leaks — get it fixed early.
Cistern fills very slowly
Likely cause: Partially closed isolation valve, blocked inlet or low water pressure
Typical fix: Open the isolation valve fully, descale the inlet filter or check mains pressure. If the whole property has low pressure, see our low water pressure guide.
Strong smell from the toilet
Likely cause: Dry trap, broken seal or vent issue
Typical fix: A plumber can check the soil stack vent and re-seal any failed connections. Persistent smells can also indicate a partial blockage downstream.

What to Expect During a Toilet Replacement
A like-for-like toilet replacement takes a competent plumber two to three hours and follows five clear stages.
Isolate and drain
The plumber closes the isolation valve, flushes the toilet to empty the cistern and sponges out the last of the water from the bowl and cistern.
Disconnect and remove
Disconnect the cold supply, unbolt the cistern from the pan, then unbolt the pan from the floor. The old unit is carried out carefully to avoid breakage.
Inspect the soil pipe
With the toilet out, the plumber checks the soil pipe seal and the floor area underneath. This is the only time you can spot hidden leaks or rot — worth doing properly.
Fit the new toilet
New wax seal, fresh isolation valve and flexible connector, then bolt the pan to the floor and the cistern to the pan. All joints sealed with silicone where appropriate.
Test and commission
Plumber fills the cistern, runs three full flushes, checks for leaks at every joint and confirms the flow is full and the bowl refills correctly. Hand-over takes 5 minutes.
